Request free chemicals through EH&S chemical Exchange program.

Problem: Chemicals are expensive and often come in larger quantities than necessary for their purpose in the lab.
Solution: EH&S has hundreds of unused chemicals that they are just waiting to give away. Some of the chemicals in stock cost hundreds of dollars per bottle and are still unopened. Moreover all chemicals in the program are listed (photos coming soon) on the Chemical Exchange website.
Cost: The chemical that your lab needs might not be available when you need it. Chemical purities are also impossible to be sure about once the container has been opened. Check with the previous user (listed on the website), and use the reagent for less stringent reactions.
Benefit: Even using the chemical exchange program once can save your lab upwards of $100. If fully utilized labs can save thousands of dollars per year and unlike energy savings, this money can be used to buy other lab necessities.
