LabRATS Programs
LabRATS at UCSB has created and joined several programs to facilitate sustainable practices. Your comments and participation will help these programs mature and excel.
Laboratory AssessmentsThis comprehensive evaluation of laboratory practices works with researchers to make labs efficient and low-impact.
Surplus EquipmentWe are evaluating supply and demand for high value used apparatus and facilitating administration and incentives (a.k.a. money) for transfers.
Chemical ExchangeWe joined EH&S to set up and promote the exchange of clean surplus chemicals instead of sending them to waste.
Mercury Thermometer ExchangeAlso, in conjunction with EH&S, we received a grant to exchange spirit thermometers for mercury models to avoid health and clean-up impacts.
Campus NetworkThis listserve aims to connect researchers in every science department to facilitate the exchange of technical ideas, equipment needs, and surpluses.
Hoods OffThis campaign is focused on older lab buildings where individual hood fans may be turned off for prolonged periods when not in use.
Efficient AppliancesInitiated by Labs21, we work with energy managers and researchers in a nationwide effort to promote, test, and manufacture efficient apparatus.
Freezer ExchangeWe are encouraging laboratories to take advantage of SCE’s rebate (up to $100) and pick-up program to eliminate old inefficient refrigerators and freezers.
Bulb-freeWe initiated a program with Facilities and Maintenance to remove unneeded fluorescent bulbs in older buildings and to mark the fixtures to promote targeted lighting.
