Team Mission
Integrate sustainable landscape management practices through incorporation of ecological principles which reduce energy and freshwater use and limit stormwater runoff and toxic chemical use while retaining local ecological values, providing educational opportunities and fulfilling recreational needs and aesthetic standards on the UCSB main campus.
Goals
- Collect baseline data on water, fuel, and chemical use and on water run-off.
- Ensure Campus landscape decisions are collaborative, address sustainability and effective use of campus resources.
- Create an aesthetically-pleasing Campus environment that is simultaneously useful for teaching and research.
- Landscape decisions more collaborative with big picture in mind.
- Retain and support unique native plant communities on Campus for ecological, aesthetic, and educational values.
Accomplishments
- 65-90% of water used for irrigation is reclaimed.
- Minimal use of herbicides.
- Minimal use of pesticides - Integrated Pest Management program in place.
- Completion of the Campus Flora Project.
- Creation of the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration (CCBER).
- Re-creation of the Campus Landscape Committee.
- Completion of Storm Water Management Plan in accordance with Central Coast RWQCB standards.
