Mission
Transportation at UCSB shall evolve to meet the needs of the campus culture and the environment to ensure the quality and long-term survival of all life on Earth.
Goals
- By 2011, 75% of fleet purchases will be alternative fuel or ultra-efficient vehicles.
- Create an alternative fuel plan for the campus.
- Create an alternative fuel coordinator position.
- Create incentives for purchasing alternative fuel vehicles on campus.
Accomplishments
- Faculty/staff bus use increased by 69% in 2008.
- UCSB has 13 vanpools, which reduce vehicle miles traveled by campus commuters by 3.2 million miles per year. The vanpool program in turn reduces campus commuters' consumption of gasoline by 128,000 gallons per year - an amount that would have created 2.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide.
- 28% of fleet vehicles are alternative fuel.
