Detailed Descriptions:
“Using LEED-CI to Green Campus Renovation Projects”
This is an advanced level workshop that goes beyond the Technical Review of LEED-CI and delves deeper into how to accomplish some of the intents of the credit requirements and to go beyond them. We spend 90% of our time indoors and more than a third of the day at work. It just makes good common sense to have energy and water efficient interiors that also promote well-being, are better for the environment, and are easier to operate and maintain.
Goals
This course has a number of goals. One is to help make the process of greening interior renovation projects more efficient and more satisfying for everyone involved. A second goal is to provide solid, relevant tools that will continue to be useful after the workshop. Finally, the hope is that every participant will leave with the confidence to implement sustainable strategies and “LEED” with their projects.
What Will Happen
The workshop will highlight lab renovation projects with data, case studies, examples and testimonials from throughout the UC/CSU system as well as from other sources. The emphasis will be on healthy, durable, and cost effective solutions that are practical and within reach of most project scopes. More challenging opportunities will also be included for those teams with the desire and ability to stretch outside the box.
Prerequisites and Who Should Attend
It’s highly recommended that participants have a general knowledge of sustainable building, familiarity with the USBGC (U.S. Green Building Council) LEED rating system, and have attended the LEED-CI Technical Workshop. The course is geared to the needs of design professionals, building and facility managers, and contractors, however everyone involved with sustainable building will find it useful. Participants will also be able to get help with current projects. It is an interactive workshop geared to a variety of learning styles, so be prepared to roll up your sleeves, get involved, and to enjoy yourself.
