Increase Sustainability Within Your Department!


Are you interested in increasing sustainability within your department or laboratory? Consider joining the employee educators program as a Sustainability Liaison where you can be a bridge between your colleagues and all things green happening on campus and in higher education. 

Sustainability Liaisons have a unique opportunity to be trained in sustainable practices in key areas such as procurement, waste management, and energy efficiency and report their takeaways to other staff and faculty. As a Liaison, you can expect to attend a quarterly training session to further discuss these topics. You should also be prepared to host 2 events with your department each year, providing an opportunity to hone leadership skills among your colleagues. These events could be a short presentation at a staff meeting, planning a nature walk at North Campus Open Space, or hosting a collaborative guided discussion with another department’s Liaison.

Another key benefit of this program is to facilitate engagement both within and between departments that would not otherwise be in contact. This helps to build campus relationships and increase the sense of community found at UCSB. Additionally, you will have opportunities for team building, professional development in key areas like procurement, and gain knowledge about resources to further compliance with UC Policy.
