Ellison’s certification is based on an extensive assessment of building and occupant performance in the areas energy and water efficiency, purchasing and recycling. Additionally, campus-wide sustainable practices including green cleaning and grounds maintenance were considered by the US Green Building Council in awarding Ellison Hall a Gold rating. The following are among the notable achievements documented at Ellison throughout the 12-month LEED assessment period:

  • 86 percent diversion (recycling) rate for all waste generated by building occupants
  • Energy efficiency rating in the 80th percentile as demonstrated by a DOE benchmarking analysis
  • 34 percent water use reduction following TGIF-funded fixture retrofit project
  • One of the oldest LEED certified existing buildings in the UC – second only to UCSB’s Girvetz Hall

Ellison Hall is UCSB’s 12th LEED for Existing Buildings certified facility. Congratulations to everybody at FM and Ellison who worked hard for this acknowledgement!
