UCSB Sustainability is committed to supporting UC President Drake's Presidential Priorities on Leading on Climate, including developing opportunities in farming and regenerative agriculture through fellowships and seeking opportunities to procure our food from sustainable sources. We also work on programs to improve equitable access to sustainable and healthy food; uplift student, staff, and faculty connection to food systems; support campus and community gardens; and raise awareness about sustainable, regenerative, and traditional food practices.
Supporting Local Farmers
11.4% of UCSB's total food and beverage spend was on sustainable products in the 2022-2023 academic year. The University of California has a goal of increasing that to 25% of our spend by 2025.
UCSB Businesses are Green Certified
Many of UCSB’s restaurants and convenience stores, as well as both of our campus caterers and all of our dining commons are certified with the Santa Barbara County Green Business Program.
