My name is Jaret Valera, I am a first-year and first-generation Promise Scholar pursuing a degree in Geography with an emphasis in Geographic Information Science. I am working at UCSB’s Sustainability Department as a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intern. In 2023, I was honored to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program by the Boy Scouts of America. I served under the position as an assistant curator for the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Project in the Anthropology Department for the 2023-2024 academic year. Outside of my internship, I occasionally volunteer with KCSB Sports as a sports photographer. In my free time, I enjoy being around friends and being active.
