In July, the University of California enacted new, more assertive goals to tackle the climate change crisis affecting college campuses, California, and the world.

In May, Charles Montgomery visited the UCSB campus and participated in walking tours of Isla Vista and Santa Barbara before giving an author talk at Campbell Hall.

Bren Master of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) students are working together to come up with a plan to electrify major HDAE campus buildings through retrofits and replacements.

In November, Transportation and Parking Services welcomed Eve Sanford as the new manager of the Transportation Alternatives Program, or TAP.

Key voices from our community came together for a workshop that was part of the University of California Climate Change Resilience and Adaptation Planning Project—a university-wide initiative to develop a framework for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ)-centered climate resilience planning.

This year’s fellows are Gigi Fung, Lauren Sullivan, and April Zhang.

Transportation & Parking Services & the Associated Students (AS) Bike Committee began a series of sustainable transportation improvements, including adding more electric vehicle charging stations, installing parking occupancy systems, improving bike paths, and planning the building of a new AS Bicycle Shop.

This month we’ve moved on to Topic 3, ‘Cool Lifestyle,’ and Topic 4, ‘Cool Home and Cool Wheels.’
