The Edible Campus Program relies on the passion and generosity of our volunteers, advisors, and supporters. Through volunteer support and advice from students, staff, faculty, and neighbors, we are able to tap into the creative ideas, knowledge, and skills of our community. If you have a passion for environmental education, connecting with the local community, and exploring ideas of sustainability and environmental stewardship, please consider joining our team!
Come and Dig with Us!
With seven citrus trees, two hydroponic tower gardens, and an experimental garden plot, we need a lot of support playing in the dirt! If you would like to learn about how to grow your own food or you just want to get out in the sun and hang out with us, this is the perfect volunteer task for you! We offer many volunteer events each quarter including Saturday Morning Live, our weekly Saturday morning volunteer event, and weekly volunteering at the ECP Student Farm. We can cater to large groups or individual volunteers. If interested in volunteering, check out the Edible Campus Program Facebook page for volunteering events. Currently, due to COVID, we are offering solo volunteering at St. Mike's Garden. For more information please email Kathy Chu kathychu@ucsb.edu.
Start Something New with Us!
We are always coming up with crazy new ideas and we need students interested in writing proposals for new projects, meeting with campus administrators to develop buy-in for new efforts, students interested in learning how to do grant-writing, and advisors who have had experience implementing related projects. If any of these describes you, please give us a call!
Bring Your Class Out to the Gardens!
If you are interested in supplementing in-class education with tours, workshops, and lectures at the Edible Campus Program farm and gardens we would love to have you! We have partnered with UCSB faculty and surrounding schools to bring classes out into nature. We have developed curriculum for all ages and interests! If interested in bringing your classes out to the ECP gardens, please contact Katie Maynard at kcmaynard@ucsb.edu.
Become a Supporter!
In addition to volunteering and mentorship, we are also seeking individuals and organizations that may be interested in donating to the Edible Campus Program. Gifts to our program will support innovative projects which repurpose underutilized spaces for food production for those in need, such as the Campus Farm, Urban Orchard, and Vertical Garden projects. Gifts also enable us to hire more students to work on these projects. The Edible Campus Program is a partner of the All at Once Campaign this year, in association with Jack Johnson’s Concert Tour. Donations made up to the first $2,500 will be matched by the Johnson Ohana Foundation. Since 2008, as part of the All At Once campaign, Jack Johnson’s tours have collaborated with over 400 community groups worldwide focusing on plastic free initiatives, sustainable local food systems, and other hands-on environmental projects. For additional questions regarding giving opportunities, please contact: Kiya Gornik at (805) 893-3423 or follow the giving link below: Facebook.
